African Grey Parrot

The African Grey Parrot is a highly intelligent, sensitive bird that can live up to 60 years as a pet – a very long-term commitment! They need a stable environment and to be treated as a member of the family, and their dusty plumage (the "dust" is dander) can be problematic for people with allergies, but they can thrive in the right home! Playful and clever, African Greys are noted for being one of the best – if not the best – “talkers” around, though the speech (if any) one chooses to pick up is dependent upon the individual. A diet of pellets supplemented with vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds can be ideal, though calcium can be an issue -- have your veterinarian check calcium levels during health checks!
