Cockatoo

Cockatoos are sometimes referred to as “velcro birds,” because they are so social and love being around – and on – their people. They are known for comical, even mischievous personalities, their ability to pick up words and sounds heard around the house (this varies greatly from bird to bird, of course), and their love for chewing on just about anything they can get their beaks on! A pellet-based diet supplemented with vegetables and fruit, along with a small amount of seeds or the occasional nut (as a treat) will keep them healthy. Cockatoos need to be around their people, and may suffer from neurotic and self-destructive behavior if they don’t receive enough attention and stimulation. On top of this consideration, larger breeds can live 80 years or more, making them a serious long-term responsibility!
