Many species of finch are kept as pets. They are generally undemanding and pleasant birds who do well housed in a large enclosure with other finches. They enjoy communicating with one another, and will make persistent (but not ear-splitting) calls throughout the day. Hand raised, your finch may perch on your finger, but they aren't "cuddle bugs" -- don't take it personally, they just prefer to be with other finches. They typically live about 10 years, though some have been reported to reach 20. They do well on a pelleted diet, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables and the occasional mealworm or insect.
