Pug

The personable Pug has a way of wiggling into the hearts of many. And who wouldn’t want such a cheerful, confident companion to share their days with? The Pug has been a cherished companion since before 400 BC! It is generally agreed that the Pug came from Asia as it shares significant similarities with the Pekingese; its oldest address is in China, where they were the pets of Tibetan Buddhist monks. Today they are a worldwide favorite. The Pug is a member of the Toy Group but this sturdy little dog is no shrinking violet. They love life and their family and friends and want to be part of the fun! They don’t need a great deal of exercise so are adaptable to apartment life and even though they shed, their short coat requires very little maintenance.

The History of the Pug

Each AKC approved purebred breed has its own national club. The mission of these “parent breed clubs” is to improve and preserve a particular breed by advancing knowledge about its history, its health and care requirements and by assuring that the breed’s form and function remain true to its historical physical type and character: A Dalmatian, for instance, should be athletic and have a natural affinity for working with horses. A Fox Terrier should have the right body size and shape, and a drive to go after vermin.

Pet owners, breeders, trainers, veterinarians, and others with a special love for a breed, join the parent breed club to meet like-minded enthusiasts and to support the club’s mission.

The national parent breed club is the first place for the public to go to learn about a breed or find a knowledgeable, experienced breeder.
