Rottweiler

The courageous and self-possessed Rottweiler commands admiration and respect. They are well-known as guardians but excel in a wide range of vocations: herding, carting, police work, therapy dog, service dog, obedience, and any other activity that engages their mind and might or both. The Rottweiler’s ancestors accompanied the Romans on their European conquests. The Germans recognized their potential as highly trainable, versatile working dogs and they were selectively bred for these qualities. Rottweilers tend to be goofy and lovable with their family but are suspicious of strangers and should be properly introduced. Regular exercise is important to keep them healthy and limber. Their striking black and rust or mahogany coat needs only minimal brushing and bathing to keep it looking sharp.
